Rest In Peace, Ninja

Ninja had to be helped to the Bridge 10/23.
Please send purrs and purrayers to Mom Brenda who misses her companion of 12 years.

Newest updates are at the bottom of the post!

Mommy Brenda emailed KC this morning (10/10) to tell her that Ninja is very sick. As Ninja doesn't have a blog of her own, KC created a post here where people could leave comments and we could post updates.

Here's the first email: I am very worried about her as her breathing has become somewhat noisy in the past few days. She seems alright otherwise, but I am worried that this may be the start of the cancer growing in her lungs. Please pray for her and me too as my heart is just breaking!! Thank you all so much!

And the second email: I have been in touch with her VET and she wants me to monitor it till after the weekend (its a long weekend here). Someone else suggested that possibly she has a hairball that is high up in the stomach. She has never had a real problem with hairballs, but you never know. As Ninja has to be anesthetised to be examined, the Vet is not too anxious to do this. I am terrified that when the time comes for her to be examined that they will tell me that her lungs are full of cancer and that it is time for her to go. I am so scared of that scenario. She is feeling fine otherwise, but if anything changes, I will take her in right away, even if I have to take her to the Emergency Vet. I won't let her suffer. She is my love and my heart. Thank you so much for caring. ~Brenda & Ninja

Update Email 10/15: Things have not changed too much with Ninja except that she started to refuse food and started licking her lips. I thought she was nauseated for some reason and got a medication from the Vet that is supposed to help her stomach. She had her first dose and ate 1/3 of a can of Fancy Feast which is more than she ate all day yesterday. We are still unsure of the outcome of this as the Vet does not really want to sedate her to examine her. I am still monitoring her. She does not seem to be in any pain and is not depressed. Please keep purring for her. Thank you for your support. ~Brenda & Ninja

Ninja Update 10/17: I am not convinced that it is actually her tummy that is upset. I think now that she has some nasal congestion and has been having a hard time smelling her food. I got her some fish flavored Fancy Feast and she ate 2 cans yesterday!! I was so pleased. She seems a bit brighter and her chest wheezing has settled down. I still think she has an upper respiratory issue going on, but she is not short of breath as she was a few days ago. She actually ran after the laser pointer at top speed last night for a few minutes. She slept well and gave me a love bite just before I left for work this morning. I think all the purring and positive thoughts have helped us so much in this difficult time. I can’t say she is out of the woods (because of the unknown cancer condition), but she is certainly enjoying life again. She isn’t perfect, but she is quite a bit better. Please keep her in your thoughts for continued improvement. Thank you to each and everyone one of you!! ~Brenda & Ninja

Ninja Update 10/22 - I have appointment with the VET tomorrow at 4:00 CST. We plan to do an xray to see why she is vomiting after eating and having a noisy purr. She was not interested in eating this morning (Wednesday) and I gave her a PepcidAC to calm her tummy. She slept well with me all night and I held her close. I am hoping for the best - that she has something that can be treated, but I am preparing for the worst - cancer. If the problem is cancer, I feel I must let her go. It pains me so much, I can't describe it. She is my companion, my confidante and my heart, always there, always non-judgemental. She has slept in my bed every night that I have slept at home for over 12 years, even now, when she is not feeling too well. Please pray hard for my little girl. If its cancer, I can't let her whither away before she goes to the bridge just because I want her here with me. I will have to make the hardest decision I have ever had to make tomorrow, so please pray for me to have the strength to do what is the best for Ninja despite my desire not to let her go. I am working today, but I will spend the day at home with Ninja tomorrow. Bless you all for your continued support and understanding. With much appreciation, ~Brenda & Ninja

UPDATE 10/23 - The cancer in Ninja's lungs was affecting her throat and ability to breathe. Brenda had to help Ninja to the Bridge because they could not keep her comfortable. We sends many, many purrs to Brenda and to Ninja to light her way to the Bridge.

We couldn't see the graphic.

We are purring for Ninja and Mommy is praying for her. She said it is heartbreaking when your fur babies are sick and you don't know what the matter is and waiting is awful. Maybe it is just sinus. We have problems with that sometimes and it makes our breathing funny.

Thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers for Ninja. She had a good and restful night and is holding her own this morning. I am a bit concerned that her appetite is a bit down, but I will encourage her to eat by giving her some special treats today.

I will keep you posted as time goes on.

Thank you all so much!

I don't have much new to report. I am a bit concerned with Ninja's appetite as she didn't eat very much yesterday. It was very gray and rainy here, so maybe she was a bit under the weather. Her breathing does not seem worse, but I will be in touch with the VET later on today.

She threw up a small hairball on Sunday. Don't know if this means much, but hopefully it does.

Thank you for all your support.

Lip licking usually is a sign of being nauseous. We hope the medication helps and Ninja gets her appetite back!

Dearest Brenda and Miss Ninja! I know you can beat this icky feeling and recover. You know that I almost died last October from not eating and felling so bad. The doctors gave me some prednisone and and auntiebiotiks and after about four days I began to feel better and within a week I was able to eat my foods again somewhat. It was a horrible scairty time for us at the cozy cottage and I know that you are going through the same feelings right now too. Mommy slept on the floor with me and kept me warm by the fireplace. She knows that at almost 16 years old every day is so precious. I have some kidney failure and also a small tumor that is growing on my tummy...but I am a lucky cat given all that. I can still jump high and drive mommy crazy. Maybe if you get a special treat like baby food...beg for it Ninja! We will all be here to purrr for your recovery.
Sending you lots of love, Miss Peach
PS: thank you for writing me directly, that was special. I just wish I could make it all better for you and mommy BrendaXOXOXO

I am so sad with you mommy Brenda...love Miss Peach (by the grace of God, still living with cancer)

How can I bear to lose you, my precious gentle one,
To know that you will not be here when my day is done?
So much of my heart, my love, have I given up to you,
How then can I stand the pain now that your life is through?
My sorrow overwhelms me, the tears so freely flow,
How can I carry on my life, with a heart that's laden so?
Then the answer comes to me from the stillness in my soul.
Remembering the love we shared will help to make me whole.
I'll hold you in a special place, so deep within my heart
And in these loving memories we'll never be apart.
You will not be so far away, your presence I will feel.
I'll wrap myself in your memory and so very slowly I will heal.
The years we shared, the little joys, the laugher and the tears
My love for you will never die, but strengthen with the years
So fare you well, my precious love, I gently let you go
And pray to all the Gods there be that you will always know
I loved you so, my little one, that love will never cease
I gave you warmth, I gave you love, and now I give you peace.
